Introducing the morale and player personality system. This is another system to emulate to push and pull of real life contracts and team building and this article will give you an overview on how this system works and how your team or the team you root for will be effected.
Player Personalities
There are 5 personalities all with different effects to the team: Leaders, Team Players, Grinders, Lone Wolves, and Divas. Personalities are randomized on a curve meaning Leaders, and team players are rarer than Lone Wolves and Grinders.
Leaders: They are the rarest and probably most valuable personality. Going forward they come with the Leadership Bonus trait and are the only ones who can have it. They also have the biggest positive effect to your locker room morale. A team with a strong leadership core will have higher player retention.
Team Players: Think of them as almost Leaders Lite edition. Team Players have a positive boost to team morale though not as big as a Leader. Their biggest feature is that during re-signing they will be willing to take the biggest hometown discount to stay with the team.
Grinders: These guys just want to play ball. The have a neutral effect on team morale and they don't look for too much money. They are also the most common.
Lone Wolves: They have a slightly negative effect on team morale but like Team Players they take a discount on re-signing though not as big of one.
Divas: Oh divas. These guys have the strongest contract demands and can be a toxic influence on a locker room. A few of them are ok if you have a strong leadership core but too many can tank your teams morale. What is good about them? Well in a future feature to come they will boost your teams prestige and help lure Fee Agents your way.
What Goes Into Morale?
A few things play into the calculation. First off the players personality changes how they react to things. Some personalities are a little more volatile than others. How a player views his role has a big effect. If a player has the role of a Depth player but is playing like a Star he's going to be pretty unhappy. Winning games also helps morale. The players you name captain get a morale boost as well.
What Does the "Wants to Return" Column Mean?
This column tells you how likely the player will accept your contact if you try to extend or re-sign them.
Yes: They want to come back...obviously
Unsure: 50/50 chance they accept an offer at the moment
No: They will not re-sign with you at this time. They will play out the rest of their current contract however.
Trade Me: They do not want to re-sign with you and they will hold out for a trade come the next off-season if they are under contract.
Conclusion
A struggle of sim leagues that don't have completely user player has been that the Team has all the power. If the team wants you the team gets you. They only things Teams have to fight is cap. Of course this will continue to be tweaked and improved as this league grows but with this addition the hope is it adds a new element of challenge to the league and simulates something that is an extremely important part of irl sports: the player own wishes.
